We spent an enjoyable weekend at Jalan Besar GRC’s Community Resilience Day alongside its grassroots advisors Mrs Josephine Teo, Mr Heng Chee How, Ms Denise Phua, and Dr Wan Rizal. It was inspiring to see participants of all ages come together to deepen their understanding of seniors and explore ways to support them in their daily lives.

During the Ageing Simulation Experience, participants put on specially designed gear that mimicked the effects of ageing and learnt valuable insights regarding the physical and emotional realities of ageing. Everyday tasks such as picking up objects with chopsticks became unexpectedly difficult, offering a moment of realisation about the struggles many elderly individuals encounter daily.

Many participants shared how the simulation transformed their perception of ageing, helping them develop a deeper sense of empathy. The experience sparked important conversations on how we can create a more supportive and inclusive environment for the elderly—one where their needs are understood and addressed with compassion.

Beyond the simulation, we aimed to equip participants with practical caregiving knowledge and tools. It was heartening to witness the enthusiasm of children and adults, united by a shared commitment to making a difference—whether through acts of kindness, advocacy, or simply taking the time to listen.

A compassionate and resilient society begins with empathy and education. We are grateful to the People's Association’s Emergency Preparedness Division (EPD) for inviting us to engage residents through experiential learning. We hope that this experience left participants with valuable insights and inspired them to help build a caring and inclusive community for all.
